Career change from mental health to business
Businesses are all about making profits while psychology tries to examine and understand
the human mind. These two areas can be merged to help each other in a way that would be
beneficial for both parties. Although psychologists lack business experience, their interactions
with people and study of the brain can help improve customer service and hence enable a
business to retain clients.
The field of psychology engages in the study of the functioning of the brain and
predicting decisions that people will make in the future based on their past experiences. A
psychologist, therefore, can be used in a business setting to study the behavior and response of
clients to different types of customer services and help the business formulate a successful way
of interacting with their customers. This way, the company would be able to attract and retain
more clients and hence increase its sales. Additionally, a psychologist can be used to train the
staff members on how to behave with clients and what to say to ensure the clients do not second
guess their decisions of transacting with the business. As for the psychologist, a transition from
the healthcare to the world of business gives him/her an opportunity to use his/her skill sets in a
different setting. This difference in setting helps increase their understanding of how humans
think and react to different environments. The transition might, however, be difficult as the
healthcare employees are not used to convincing their customers to buy from them as it is in the
business world. Nevertheless, employees from both sectors share some similarities in that their

works deal mainly with people and understanding the needs of people be it health wise or
businesswise.
Therefore, a business owner can hire a psychologist into his/her business despite no
previous business experience as a way of improving the relations of his/her employees with the
customers.
